Approved CSR Projects: FY 24-25

Project: Jal Unnati
Implementation Partner: Action for Food Production (AFPRO)
Location: 8 habitations of Nanjangud, Karnataka
Key Initiatives: We launched this multi-year water project in 2022 to conserve and replenish water sources and enable access to safe drinking water in the project area. The project activities include construction of 3 artificial recharge structures, desilting and renovation of an existing irrigation tank, renovation of 15 existing open wells, drilling new borewells and pumps, and construction of water tanks. Under safe drinking water, we are renovating 11 existing RO plants and setting up a new community-level RO plant.

Project: Project Oxygen Zone
Implementation Partner: Prayas Youth Foundation
Location: Waluj MIDC, Ch. Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra
Key Initiatives: A multi-year project, launched in 2022, to develop an urban native forest using the Miyawaki plantation technique. Under the project, we are planting 50,000 trees of approximately 80 native species in a stretch of 4.94 acres of industrial land. The project aims to improve green cover and biodiversity in the project location which is largely industrial.

Project: Project Jal Shakti (Phase 2)
Implementation Partner: BharatCares
Location: 6 Gram Panchayats of Sangareddy, Telangana
Key Initiatives: After the successful implementation of project Jal Shakti (phase 1) in Sangareddy, Telangana, we have launched phase 2 of the project in 2024 to mitigate social and economic challenges through a series of strategic interventions targeted at improving water management, restoring ecosystems, and supporting community resilience. This will be a multi-year project running from 2024-27 where we will undertake check dam development, repair of check dams, and nala deepening and widening. We will also be setting up 2 renewable energy-powered centres of excellence to promote water conservation and demonstrate sustainable agricultural practices. These activities will include establishment of automatic weather station, soil testing lab, agroforestry model farm, horticulture model farm, regenerative model farm, kitchen garden models, System of Rice Intensification (SRI) model farm, model bio-composting, climate proof livestock shed, farmer training room, low-tunnel demo farm, mulchin demo farm, and demonstration of sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation. Other initiatives under the project are capacity building of the community and linkages to Government schemes among others.

Project: Project Jal Sanchay (Phase 2)
Implementation Partner: S M Sehgal Foundation
Location: Mandigere village of Nelamangala, Karnataka
Key Initiatives: In June 2024, we decided to continue our interventions under project Jal Sanchay by launching its phase 2. Our aim is to increase groundwater recharge through rejuvenation of a tank in Mandigere village of Nelamangala, Karnataka. Under the project, we have also formed a Village Development Committee (VDC) which is responsible for maintaining the tank in the long run and we have been working in collaboration with them since the beginning of the project.

Project: Project Gram Swavalamban
Implementation Partner: End Poverty
Location: 4 villages of Khairthal-Tijara, Rajasthan
Key Initiatives: Initiated in 2024, the objective of this project is to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices in the project villages. The activities include training 100 farmers regarding climate-resilient agricultural practices and allied activities, demonstration of laser levelling, farm bunding, and construction of vermi compost pits. To ensure sustainability of the project, we have formed Village Development Committees (VDCs) and selected Gram Sakhis or village level volunteers, and we will continue working with them to enable capacity building of these members and volunteers.

Project: Project Haritha Samruddhi (Phase 3)
Implementation Partner: People’s Service Society Palakkad
Location: Pudussery Gram Panchayat of Palakkad, Kerala
Key Initiatives: After the successful implementation of first two phases of project Haritha Samruddhi in Pudussery Gram Panchayat, we have launched phase 3 of the project in FY 24- 25. Apart from the repair and maintenance of the components of the 5 plantation zones established in phase 2, under this project, water conservation interventions such as masonry check dam, gabion checkweirs, and deepening of big ponds are included. To ensure the sustainability of the project, local community has been involved from the beginning of the project.

Project: Project SAKhEE (Strengthening and Advancement of women in Khordha by Entitlement and Enterprise)
Implementation Partner: Urban Management Centre
Location: Khordha, Odisha
Key Initiatives: Project SAKhEE aims at empowering marginalised women near the Khordha Industrial Estate to earn livelihood and access social security entitlements. As part of the project, various activities are being undertaken to build their knowledge, skills and agency so that they are able to access opportunities and manage enterprises that provide them a dependable livelihood and make them resilient to face the world on their own.

Project: Project EmpowerHer
Implementation Partner: BharatCares
Location: Women’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Ch. Sambhajinagar (previously known as Aurangabad), Maharashtra
Key Initiatives: The goal of project EmpowerHer is to upgrade one of the women’s ITI in Ch. Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, focusing on infrastructure enhancement, trainer development, and new-age skilling initiatives. We inaugurated this project in July 2024 in the presence of Ms. Geetu Gidwani Verma, Chairperson – CSR & ESG committee.

Project: Kartavya (Phase 2)
Implementation Partner: BharatCares
Location: Uttar Pradesh
Key Initiatives: Project Kartavya is aimed at fostering positive behavioral change among citizens regarding road safety. Under this project, we will create an engagement module for licensed drivers or learner drivers who visit the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for tests, queries, renewals, etc. for which a digital sense lab with required infrastructure, digital gadgets and a facilitator will be set up in 3 RTOs of Lucknow, Aligarh and Prayagraj. We will educate citizens about issues like drink and drive, over speeding, red light jumping, avoiding safety gears such as seatbelts and helmets, non-adherence to lane driving and wrong-side driving.

Project: Safe Drinking Water Project
Implementation Partner: WaterAid India
Location: 5 villages of Kalyani, West Bengal
Key Initiatives: Launched in September 2024, this project is a multi-year initiative focused on providing safe drinking water to communities through sustainable solutions. We will also establish Village Water Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) and build the capacities of Gram Panchayats, VWSCs, and other important stakeholders in community-led water quality management, ensuring the sustainability of the project.

Mini Science Centres

Primary education reveals the horizons that empower the recipients to establish a name of their own and help society in their own ways. It is the first step to becoming a contributing member of the community and no person should be deprived of the opportunity. Children in their early years are most receptive to information and so it is the best time for them to know the benefits of primary education. UBL lends a hand in promoting conducive learning environment to the schools in the villages around its breweries. The myriad projects range from unique Mini Science Centres to providing basic infrastructure support with the help of the NGOs in the areas.
